From the ground up

post

February 1st.

Christmas holidays are well gone and the Australia Day weekend has passed which means we are a month down in ’18 and, equally depressing, is the fact we don’t have any public holidays this month. Also gone are the excuses we can throw out there to eat badly and consume our weights worth of sangria on a Sunday arvo in the sun. At some point over the past month/week/day/hr/minute, we’ve all consumed some form of sugar, fried food, dairy, grain-fed meat, gluten or alcohol. And yep that includes me.

But what do these foods and beverages all have in common and what impact do they have on our body when consumed? Inflammation.

Now this certainly isn’t a rant about how we should all immediately become vegan and cut out some of the greatest foods known to mankind (ie. bacon), it’s simply a platform to introduce you to a quick, effective way to restrict the chronic low-grade inflammation in our body caused by consuming the everyday things that we all cherish.

Here’s some interesting facts about the body and inflammation;

  • Our body generates electricity which is the key function of our nervous system and ensures the maintenance of our circadian rhythm. If electrical activity stops, you cannot survive. Simple as that.
  • Inflammation in the body will thrive if we have a lot of free radical stress on our body or, in simple terms, a  positive charge to the body which directly results in a thickening of the blood.
  • Inflammation impacts your hormones and other neurotransmitters in your brain – driving down serotonin levels, which can lead to feelings of depression or anxiety, and problems with memory. It also prevents melatonin from being produced which causes insomnia (remember how terrible you sleep after a big sugary dessert?)

So how do we counteract all of these impacts on our body?

Grounding.

How do i do it?

Invest 2% of your day, every day (just half an hour) to go outside and sit, stand, or walk on soil, grass, sand, or concrete. Use any excuse you can to do this – that phone call to a client over your lunch-break, listening to a podcast, or even taking your shoes and socks off on the walk home!

Why?

When our body is inflammed we are in a state of positive charge. Every single chronic disease known to mankind has one thing in common –  chronic inflammation. Contradicting this, excitingly, the Earth carries an overwhelming negative charge. It’s always electron-rich and therefore serves as an abundant supply of antioxidant and free-radical-busting electrons (negative ions). When we put our feet on the ground, we begin to immediately absorb large amounts of negative electrons through the soles of our feet.

This will transition our body’s to the same negatively charged electrical potential as the Earth and its overall effect is now known to be one of the most powerful and potent antioxidants accessible to humans.

What impact will this have?

Each of these are scientifically proven in case studies, journal articles and longitudinal research;

  1. Decreased levels of inflammation and pain of up to 80% after 4 weeks
  2. 50% improvement in volume of deep sleep after 6 weeks
  3. 40% reduction in the production of cortisol (our stress hormone). Normalisation of this helps control metabolism and blood sugar levels (weight gain)
  4. Statistically significant mood improvement that relaxation could deliver on its own.
  5. Grounding is a blood-thinner which improves circulation and aids in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells – in other words it also has anti-ageing effects.

So what are we waiting for?

Lets invest in ourselves and hit the ground running in 2018 🙂
